High Desert Worm Composting

Gardening in the high desert can be a challenge. With the late springs and cold nights a garden can be frustrating. One of the big problems is the quality of the soil. Bend, Oregon is located in central Oregon, a volcanic area with rocks on the surface and large rock flows just inches beneath the ground. There is little organic material in the soil due to the sparse desert conditions. One must build their own soil if they wish to have a successful garden. Worm composting is an excellent way to do this. All you need to get started is garbage, a worm bin, and some red wiggler worms. Chuck and Debbie Haynes have started Cascade Worms and Compost to help you create great worm compost to augment your soil. Contact us to get started.
